Local Matters
As of 2017, only 7% of Arizona’s total deposits are in Arizona-owned banks and credit unions, meaning much of our money is controlled by national or global banks that don’t have a connection to our community. Here are the top 3 biggest myths about local banking:
Myth 1: It’s not convenient to bank locally. One of the biggest concerns is accessing money. At home or on-the-go, you have access to your money with Credit Union West. We offer personal service at 12 locations throughout Maricopa and Yavapai counties, plus simple, easy-to-use, 24/7 access with Online and Mobile Banking services.

Myth 2: Local institutions charge higher fees. Local institutions offer free checking and savings accounts more often than national banks. Research by Moebs Services1 shows that “only 27% of banks greater than $5 billion in assets offer free checking.” When it comes to ATM fees, only two national banks waive or reimburse ATM surcharges on basic checking accounts, however, all Credit Union West members have FREE access to over 55,000 Allpoint Network ATMs worldwide.3
Myth 3: Switching to a local institution is too difficult. Making the switch to a local institution is fast and easy. At Credit Union West, our friendly member service representatives will walk you through the process of opening an account in minutes.
